Manaslu Circuit Trek Overview

Manaslu Circuit Trek is a blend of remote trekking experiences with pristine Himalayan nature and ancient local settlements that appear to be a magical world in itself. Being a less explored area, Manaslu Circuit Trek is the perfect choice for trekkers looking for a less crowded trekking trail in Nepal. In recent years, road construction near and around the Manaslu Circuit trekking trail has shortened the days required for the trip. The trek begins from an altitude of around 850 meters and reaches a maximum elevation of 5,100 meters. Around 38 Km of trail in the higher elevation of this trek is covered in snow or mostly remains chilly. The cascading waterfalls, dense greenery, local inhibitions, and the uniquely settled local settlements during the Manaslu trekking trail blow away all the negativity in trekkers and force them to concentrate on the natural beauty of what they are doing.

The roadway to Machhakhola is as adventurous as the Manaslu Trekking journey. We will be greeted surprisingly with waterfalls and almighty nature throughout the trail. The trek begins as we head towards the North direction from Machhakhola. The walk continues upward alongside the Budigandaki River, which originates from mountains, including Mt. Manaslu, and glaciers in Tibet and Nepal Border. Both sides of the trail are wildly green and wet until we reach Jagat. After Jagat, we begin to experience a little decreased greenery till Lho. Then, after the Lho village, the geography is all mountainous unless we reach Bimthang village, crossing the Larkya La Pass. A cantilever bridge before reaching Jagat village is another vintage experience for trekkers, drilled and hung on the cliff side of the river. We will begin seeing lovely mountains from after Philim village towards the northwest direction of the village. We will see Mt. Lapchung(5,880m. ) and Mt. Chhachung(5,996m) from Philim village until crossing Deng village. A village called Prok, resembling a gigantic chair when seen from Bihi Bazaar, is believed to be around a 3000-year-old mountain settlement. The local people consider the chair to be of Guru Rinpoche. Crossing many such villages in between the trail and the magnificent views of mountains, including Mt. Manaslu(8,163m), Manaslu East Pinnacle(7,992m), Manaslu North(6,994m), Mt. Pangpoche I(6,620m), Samdo peak(5,177m), Mt. Yangra(7,422m), Mt. Himalchuli(7,893m), Mt. Larkya(6,249m), Mt. Annapurna ranges we will come to the endpoint of trekking at the village named Tilije and then drive back to Kathmandu.

Manaslu Circuit trekking trail follows the route as Kathmandu-Machhakhola-Jagat-Philim-Deng-Prok-Namrung-Lho-Sama(Samagaon)-Samdo-Dharamsala-Bimthang-Dharapani-Kathmandu. To enhance the experience of the trip our guides are trained to provide yoga and meditation exercises every morning before we begin our trek and yoga therapy to relax and recover the muscle strain at the end of the trek. Manaslu circuit trek with Himalayan Adventure Therapy will be a novel experience of self-care and a socially responsible act in your life.

Trip Innovations

To enhance your arrival experience, we'll provide you with a fragrant marigold garland and a refreshing water bottle.

Day 2: Drive to reach Machhakhola (820 to 870m)

Long but scenic Himalayan countryside driveway

Our journey starts with an exciting drive to Machhakhola. This scenic route takes us through Nepal's countryside highways and rough roads beneath majestic Himalayan peaks. The adventure begins even before reaching Machhakhola! We plan to leave Kathmandu as early as possible to complete this 10-hour-long journey.

As we make our way towards Machhakhola, we can enjoy breathtaking views of waterfalls cascading down from high hillsides and observe the Turkish green-colored river flowing alongside us on one side of the trail. These natural wonders ensure that our journey remains far from monotonous.

Throughout this lengthy expedition, short breaks are scheduled according to group needs - allowing everyone ample time for rest and relaxation. As fellow travelers share their stories, you may also engage in conversation with accompanying guides, drivers, and staff members who are eager to listen and contribute tales they've collected over time.

Day 3: Begin trekking from Machhakhola to Jagat (1,300 to 1,380m)

First trek day in Manaslu region

Our trekking trip begins early in the morning after breakfast at Machhakhola. Before we begin our journey, our trained trip leader will provide trekkers with morning mindfulness and yoga instructions. After enjoying a delicious local breakfast served by the hotel, we set off towards Jagat.

The trail for today's trek takes us through green forests along the side of the Budigandaki River, where we'll cross several suspension bridges. One highlight of this day is crossing a unique bridge called the Cantilever Bridge in Yarubagar over the Budigandaki River just before reaching Jagat village. This particular type of bridge has its base support given to the side wall rather than being suspended by wire ropes.

As we continue our trek, we pass small local settlements that serve as resting points for trekkers going up and down to Manaslu region. Once arriving in Jagat, our trip leader will lead muscle relaxation therapeutic exercises before heading to our assigned rooms.

Budigandaki riverside walk to reach this small but ancient local settlement
The next day follows a similar schedule and procedures as the previous one. The trail will have more barren surroundings with towering stone cliffs, but there will be no steep uphill or downhill walks. The Nyak village offers breathtaking views of majestic hills and mountains on the China-Nepal border about 15 km away from there. Nyak also boasts ample farm fields where locals can be seen using primitive techniques and tools for their farming activities. In Nyak, we again relax and regain muscle strength with expert guide relaxation therapy at our hotel.

An ancient village of locals, believed to be chair of Guru Rinpoche
Prok Village holds historical significance dating back around 600 years related to Guru Rinpoche. Prok Village's view looks like a giant chair when seen from Behe village, which lies en route. The local people consider the village as chair of Guru Rinpoche. Prok itself is surrounded by beautiful green hills offering scenic beauty. Today's walking trail includes some steep ascents and descents not exceeding 1km total distance. After walking about 4.5 km past Prok, there is a slightly uphill section about 1.5 km before reaching Namrung village. You can enjoy beautiful views of the Himalayan valley and snow-capped peaks from the village. A little harder yet rewarding walk to Shyala, one of the best viewpoint on trek.

Today, we will reach the best viewpoint of Mt Manaslu and the adjoining mountains. After crossing many remote villages and the trail with numerous natural diversity, we arrived where the mountain view became prominently evident just in front of where we stood. Around a 2.5 Km walking trail from Namrung village, it is easy to walk straight and slightly inclines up towards Lho village and then Shyala. We will embark on the beauty of Lho village and then head towards Shyala village, from where we will admire the beauty of the Himalayan ranges adjoining Mt. Manaslu. Shyala is among the best vantage points for the Himalayan ranges, including Mt. Manaslu.

Day 8: Trek to Samagaon(3,500 to 3,560m) and Explore Birendra Lake, Manaslu Base Camp

Short and easy trek to Sama from Shyala. Explore Birendra Lake, Manaslu Base Camp
Today's easy trek to Samagaon begins right after breakfast with a magical view of Mt. Manaslu from Shyala village. The trail passes right below the Punggen Glacier initially with a mildly inclined slope and then the straight way to Samagaon or Sama Village. We will also see a remote village school called Shree Gaurishanker School in the middle of our way to Smagaon. With the gigantic view of Mount Manaslu towards the western side of the trail, we will reach Samagaon before lunchtime. The infamous village in the Manaslu region serves as the operation center for the Mt. Manaslu Expedition. The way to Manaslu Base Camp is just about 4.5 km from the northwest side of Samagaon. We will explore the nearby attractions after lunch, including Birendra Lake, named after the famous late king of Nepal, Birendra Bira Bikram Shahdev and Manaslu Base Camp. The glacial lake is formed right below the base of Mt. Manaslu, making it more pristine and beautiful, surrounded by huge mountains from all directions at an elevation of 3,640 to 3,694 meters. We will spend quality time exploring the lake and village, return to the hotel, and relax with Yoga Therapy exercises. The widely expanded ancient settlement of Samagaon is another point of interest to explore.

Day 9: Trek to Samdo(3,850 to 3,880m)

High Altitude trek to Samdo for amazing mountain view

Today, the trekking trail is easy to walk, but being in high elevations, we will not be able to walk as fast as we were in lower elevations. The trail heads towards the north from Samagaon with the view of Samdo Peak. We will pass through Kermo Kharka, where the barren mountainous cliffs provide a small pass through their laps. The walking trail is straight with no steep inclinations till Samdo. The big Mani walls are there to welcome visitors to the Samdo village. Samdo village is located at a raised island-like place above the junction of Budigandaki River and Mayol Khola, facing southeast. Towards the south direction of the village, we will get to see Rani Peak(6,692 meters), Simnan Himal(6,152 meters), and Himalchuli(7,893 meters). We will admire the views and take much-needed rest before heading towards the wildest part of the trail through Dharamsala the next day. We can explore the viewpoints in the village, do Yoga Therapy exercises, or relax.

Day 10: Trek to Dharamsala(4,470 to 4,475m) and Rest

Trek through glacial trail to reach Dharamsala

The wild journey towards the Dharamsala begins early in the morning after breakfast, and the trail is magical with the view of Mt. Manaslu and Larkya Peak at just 6 to 8 Km from the walking trail. We will be passing alongside the settled Syacha Glacier below the towering mountains. The primary lodging facility welcomes travelers with mani walls and the remoteness of the small settlement meant for trekkers crossing the Larkya La Pass. Day 11: Trek to Bimthang (3,710 to 3,715m) Via Larkya la or Larke Pass 5,143m

The most awaited day, crossing one of the highest mountain pass in the world.

The most significant day for trekkers on Manaslu Circuit Trek is today when we will cross Larkya La Pass at an elevation of 5,143 meters. We begin walking along the side of Larkya Glacier up to 3 Km and then through it for the next 3 km to reach Amrit Tal(Amrit Lake), a beautiful glacial lake at 5,065 meters elevation with an area of 13,462 square meters. From there, the trail becomes less steep for another about 1 Km, where we will touch Larkya La pass. Though the trail is less steep, it is full of loose rocks, making it a rocky trail. The path within the 1 km perimeter of the pass is primarily rocky and filled with loose stones, and trekkers must be careful with their steps. From the Larkya La Pass, we will see the fantastic panoramic view of mountains in the southeast and northwest directions of the pass. Larke Peak (6,229 m), Mt. Pangpoche I(6,620m), Samdo Peak (6,33 m), Chhamjo Peak(5,382m), and Tasa Peak(5,543m) can be seen in the southeast direction whereas Mt. Annapurna II(7,555m), Mt. Kanguru(6,972m), Mt. Chombi(6,704m), Mt. Gyaji Kang(7,038m) and Mt. Nimjung(7,140m) can be seen in the northwest direction of the pass. With those magical mountain views, we descend towards Bimthang for the night stay. The valley becomes more expansive and greener as we descend from the Larkya La pass to Bimthang village. At the same time, we get to cross the Ponkar Tal(Ponkar Lake), a beautiful glacier lake at an elevation of 4,100 meters from the sea level.

The trail becomes more greener as we go further down towards the village. We will walk alongside a glacial river with cascading waters on the trail today.
